Never Let Me Down is one of the least appreciated gems in David's catalogue of studio albums. Cast aside at the time as being overbaked in late 80s production values and erratic in style... like so many of his records Never Let Me Down gets better with age. The songwriting is vibrant and excited, everything the 80s represented sonically is thrown in a blender and reassembled as send-ups of the time. Notes of Lodger are ever present but more notably it's the first Bowie record to have straight up rock songs on it since Rebel Rebel. The Reeves Gabrels reworks help really bring the quality of this work to light and I'd consider both the original production and the reimagining essential counterparts to understanding this incredible record long and wrongly thought a miss. (Pair these with the Glass Spider DVD and revel in just how much fun David Bowie is having remixing every moment of his career up to that point. It's visible on his face nearly every moment of the show.) Five stars for Never Let Me Down
