Coming to cinemas in September, MOONAGE DAYDREAM illuminates the life and genius of David Bowie, one of the most prolific and influential artists of our time. Told through sublime, kaleidoscopic, never-before-seen footage, performances and music, Brett Morgen’s (The Kid Stays in the Picture, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, Jane) feature length experiential cinematic odyssey explores David Bowie’s creative, musical and spiritual journey. The film is guided by David Bowie’s own narration and is the first officially sanctioned film on the artist.
The companion album to MOONAGE DAYDREAM features songs from spanning Bowie’s career and includes previously unheard material, unique mixes created for the film and this release along with dialogue from Bowie himself.
Highlights include a previously unreleased live medley of 'The Jean Genie / Love Me Do / The Jean Genie’ recorded live at the final Ziggy Stardust concert at Hammersmith Odeon in 1973, featuring Jeff Beck on guitar. Other rarities include an early version of the Hunky Dory favourite ‘Quicksand’ and a previously unreleased live version of ‘Rock ’n’ Roll With Me’ from the legendary 1974 ’Soul Tour’.
The first track to be released is MODERN LOVE (MOONAGE DAYDREAM MIX), one of Bowie’s biggest and best-loved worldwide hits. This version is a unique mix starting with the isolated piano motif from the track, building up into the chorus before ending on the a cappella backing vocals offering an insight into the individual elements that create the classic we all know and love.

I haven't managed to see the movie for a variety of scheduling reasons, but the soundtrack intrigued me. I purchased it, and I was delighted by this. There are some great alternative versions and medley versions of classic songs. I felt that this would be a great CD for someone who isn't completely familiar with David Bowie's ouevre. It was served as a great introduction for a neophyte. I also like that they use the bass and drum tracks of some songs over the Melodies of others and they fit quite well. There are some nice obscure songs on here which are seeing the light of day and the whole thing flows quite beautifully. The final snippet of Bowie saying goodbye is very poignant.

I loved the movie. To me, it was more than just a documentary about Bowie's life, it was more like a work of art. I very much liked how he included some of Bowie's paintings in the movie and I'm very appreciative of how little time he focused on Blackstar. I feel that would have made the movie a little bit sadder in the end (I still cannot listen to Lazarus). To have the music separate from the movie makes my commute so much better.

Was somewhat disappointed in the movie but it was great to see David in the setting I first saw him back in the Spiders days. Brought back many memories. With all the hype of the movie I was likely expecting more but I would watch again. I enjoyed the music on the two CD's. I give 5 stars for all the effort it took to put this together, very historical.
Awesome CD

I didn't get to see the movie (nearest IMAX is over an hour away)so I got the CD . I'm glad I did. So much great music , some I've never heard. Now I'm going to buy the Blue-Ray !!!!! This is a great addition to my Bowie collection.
